Shirts and ties, fancy dresses, corsages and boutonnieres were everywhere. But this wasn’t your typical prom. This one belonged to a bunch of fourth-graders and their grandparents.

Students at Stadium Drive Elementary were treated to dinner and dancing as part of the school’s “senior prom,” which refers to the grandparents and school’s fourth-graders, who are the eldest students at the school.

The event offered commemorative photos, corsages and boutonnieres worn by guests, and a DJ entertaining those on the dance floor. The fourth-graders also received a shirt to remember their night.

Thomas Nawrocki, grandpa of fourth-grader Hannah, traveled 250 miles from Stuartstown, Pa., just to attend the event with his granddaughter.

“I invited my grandpa because I spend the most time with him,” Hannah explained. “I like that whenever I visit his house, I always get candy. I want tonight to be a thanks for coming so far to visit me.”

Although grandparents were suggested, students were free to invite any special person they wished. Fourth-grader Miles Spearman invited his mom because his grandparents live in Charlotte, N.C.

Stacey Spearman was looking forward to letting loose with her son.

“I just want to have fun tonight and I want Miles to have fun with his friends. All of the kids are splitting up between Glenwood and Center Middle Schools, so tonight, I want Miles to enjoy the time he has left with his friends and with Stadium Drive. This prom is a great way to say goodbye,” she shared.
