Ohioan faces 44 counts of child-sex abuse

A prosecutor says an Ohio man has been charged with 44 counts involving sex offenses against children.

Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said Friday that a grand jury has indicted 42-year-old Derrick Mayes of Dayton. Heck says investigators determined that Mayes sexually abused nine children over 14 years.

The charges include both rape and gross sexual imposition of children under age 13, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and corruption of a minor. He also is charged with disseminating material harmful to a juvenile and importuning.

Mayes was arrested Friday.
