MAHONING COUNTY

Austintown: The Austintown Memorial Day parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday and follow a route from Marc’s parking lot at the corner of Mahoning Avenue and Idaho Road to Fitch High School Veterans Memorial. A commemorative service begins at 11 a.m. sponsored by Austintown Memorial American Legion Post 301, Austintown VFW Post. The speaker will be Maj. Bruce Montgomery, USMC retired, and master of ceremonies is Gary Kommel, Post 301 vice commander.

Boardman: The 107th Memorial Day Parade and service will be hosted by Boardman Kiwanis Club. The parade will line up and begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Boardman Center Middle School, proceed north on Market Street to U.S. Route 224, then east to Boardman Park and the Maag Outdoor Arts Theatre for the service. The marching band will play, and a wreath will be laid.

Campbell: Memorial Day parade will begin at 8 a.m. Monday at the Legion Hall, 103 12th St. There will be a service at 9 a.m. at St. John Cemetery, where Steffon Wydell Jones of Youngstown, local historian, will be the keynote speaker. After that service, those attending will proceed to Archangel Michael, St. John Russian, St. Nicholas and St. Michael cemeteries. There will be a program at 11 a.m. at the Campbell Memorial High School monument. Refreshments will follow at the legion hall. The programs are sponsored by American Legion FDR Post 560, 37th Division.

Canfield: 90th annual Memorial Day services will be at 10 a.m. Monday on the Green presented by Canfield American Legion Post 177 and War Vet Museum. In case of rain, services will be at Canfield High School auditorium on Cardinal Drive.

Ellsworth: Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the elementary school on state Route 45. The main speaker will be Jim Olive, coordinator of the Office of Veterans Affairs at Youngstown State University. Special music will be provided by Western Reserve High School Band. A parade will follow from the school to Ellsworth Cemetery Memorial on Route 224, where a service will be by VFW Post 9571.

North Jackson: Jackson Township will have its Memorial Day Parade on Monday. The parade will step off at 9 a.m. from the Jackson-Milton football field and will end at the North Jackson Cemetery, where the memorial service will take place.

New Middletown: The parade participants will line up at 9 a.m. Monday. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. The memorial service will be at the flagpole at New Middletown Elementary School at 10 a.m.

North Lima: Beaver Township Ruritan Club will have a parade and memorial service. The parade line-up begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday, and the parade begins at 11 a.m. Service will follow at North Lima Veterans Memorial.

Poland: The 38th annual parade and memorial ceremonies will be Monday. Line-up begins at 8:45 a.m. at Baird Mitchell Field. The Four Chaplains Memorial Service at Post 15 Home will be at 9 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Lee and Cortland streets and will travel to Main Street Bridge. Memorial service at 10:15 a.m. for those lost at sea. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. Speaker is Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti. Grand marshal is Merle Madred, Navy veteran, and chaplain is Pastor Mark Brungard, Church of the Rock.

Youngstown: Smoky Hollow Memorial Day services will be at 11:15 a.m. Monday at corner of Walnut Street and Rayen Avenue. Keynote speaker is Bob Hannon, president of United Way.

Youngstown: American Legion Post 504, 2225 Glenwood Ave., will have a program at 5 p.m. Monday with keynote speaker Col. Teresa H. Hams and Judge Robert Douglas of Youngstown Municipal Court. Dinner will be served.

Youngstown: VFW Post 6488 and Ladies Auxiliary will have a Memorial Day observance at 1 p.m. Monday at the post home, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road. Keynote speaker will be Harry Meshel, former Ohio State senator and World War II veteran. A special award will be made to the relatives of Sgt. Marco Miller of Warren, who died in Iraq in December 2007.

TRUMBULL COUNTY

Brookfield: The annual Memorial Day parade will form at 9 a.m. Monday behind Brookfield Middle School on Grove Street and will begin at 10 a.m. and continue west, then south on state Route 7 to Brookfield Township Cemetery. A memorial service takes place below the flagpole. Guest speakers are Dave and Dianne Allison, who will present a tribute to the 11 Revolutionary War veterans buried in the cemetery. Dedication for the Revolutionary War Monument will be conducted by Brookfield Historical Society.

Fowler: Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fowler United Methodist Church followed by a parade at 11 a.m. and military service by Vienna VFW Post 3521. A light lunch will be served after the service at Fowler Fire Station. The historical Butts House Museum and 1850 Town Hall will be open.

Girard: Services will be at Girard Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday. Monsignor John A. Zuraw, pastor of St. Rose Parish, will give the invocation and benediction. Scout Troop 40 will raise the flag, and taps and the national anthem will be played by the Girard High School Band with a rifle salute by Girard Veterans Council Honor Guard. Biographies of deceased veterans will be given by high-school students, and President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address will be recited by valedictorians of this year’s graduating class. Leslie Kloc will play “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.

Hartford: Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hartford Center.

Hubbard: The Memorial Honorary Procession will be at 10 a.m. Monday to honor veterans. The parade will form at the top of Princeton Avenue at 9:30 a.m. and will march to Hubbard Union Cemetery for services, then to the War Memorial at the fire station for services. In case of bad weather, services will be at Hubbard Municipal Building in Council Chambers at 10 a.m.

Vienna: Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Mathews High School Memorial Gymnasium. Presentation and retirement of colors will be by VFW 3521. The program will feature music by Mathews High School band and the Memorial Day address will be by VFW Commander Jeff Dreves. A procession will follow to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Township Green led by VFW Post 3521, AMVETS Post 290, Mathews band, Vienna Township Fire Department and various community groups. The service will conclude with a rifle salute and taps played by Jordan Brown and Dominic DiTommaso.

COLUMBIANA COUNTY

Columbiana: American Legion Memorial Day parade and services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Main Street and East Park Avenue and will proceed to Fire-stone Cemetery.

Salem: The 147th Memorial Day activities will begin with a free breakfast for all veterans participating in the parade at Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. at 8 a.m. Monday. A citywide memorial service will be conducted on the Village Green at 9 a.m. Line-up for the parade is 9:30 a.m. on South Broadway. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will proceed from Broadway to State Street, Ohio Avenue and Franklin Street to Grandview Cemetery, where a ceremony will be at 11 a.m. A fly-over by 910th Air Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station is scheduled depending on the weather.

MERCER COUNTY

Mercer, Pa.: Mercer Memorial Day raising of the 500 flags will be at 9 a.m. Monday. 5K race, military games, veteran reception at 9 a.m.; Patriotic program at 9 a.m. includes Pa. Army National Guard concert, 2011 honoree recognition, new-recruit induction and 5K race-winner awards. Scouts will decorate the Liberty tree at the court house near the bandstand at 10 a.m., and the unveiling of the Josh McClimans Court House banner will be at 11 a.m. Parade also will start at 11 a.m., and the memorial program will be at noon at Helen Black Memorial Chapel next to the Mercer County Historical Society headquarters. Light refreshments will be served. The society museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where there will be a book sale. MCHS will be closed Tuesday.
