The YSU Marching Pride, Youngstown State University’s marching band, is seeking new members for the fall season.

The Marching Pride performs at every YSU home football game.

This year, the band will also travel to the away game Sept. 2 at Michigan State.

Brandt Payne, director of athletic bands, said that Marching Pride members need not be music majors to join the band.

New members may already be YSU students or incoming freshmen.

Marching Pride members receive one semester hour of credit for performing.

No audition is required, but attendance is required at all performances and rehearsals.

“Many incoming freshmen who have a love for music seek performance outlets but do not want to be a music major,” Payne said. “The Marching Pride is a perfect way to stay connected to music performance while making new contacts away from their academic studies.”

Band camp for all incoming freshmen begins Aug. 22.

The first performance of the 2011 season will be the “Meet the Pride” performance at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Stambaugh Stadium.
