YOUNGSTOWN

Cedric Jamarr Haynes Sr., son of Elder Cedric Haynes and the late missionary Charlene Haynes, will give his initial sermon Sunday at 5 p.m. at Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, 2165 Highland Avenue SW, where he has been a member since 1989.

He graduated from Mineral Ridge High School in 2000. He attended Columbus State Community College and Mount Union University from 2000-04. He’s married to Tamara McCoy Haynes and has four children; Michael McCoy, Keiona Lee, Alexandria Haynes and Cedric Haynes Jr.

Anniversary Mass

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop George V. Murry will celebrate a special Mass on June 5 at 2 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral to mark the wedding anniversaries of 173 couples who are being honored for a total of 8,177 years of wedded life ranging from 25 to 72 years.

At 72 years, Anthony and Mary Centofanti, parishioners of St. Paul Parish in Salem, are the longest- married couple.

The celebration also will honor 58 couples married 51 to 66 years; 43 couples married 50 years; 50 couples married 40 years; and 21 couples marking 25 years.

Fellowship banquet

HUBBARD

A nondenominational fellowship banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Brentford House, 737 Myron St., presented by Pastor Barbara McCrae of New Covenant Christian Center COGIC, Farrell, Pa. (formerly known as Trinity Gospel), and Pastor Barbara Dobranchin and congregation of Jesus Is the Way Ministries in Liberty and Girard.

Tornado relief

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown is collecting donations to support relief work in areas affected by the recent tornadoes in the United States.

Money will be forwarded to Catholic Charities USA Disaster Relief, the official U.S. Catholic Bishops’ domestic disaster coordinating office.

Checks may be made payable to: Catholic Charities — Domestic Disaster Fund, noted for “US Storms Fund,” and sent to: Catholic Charities, Diocese of Youngstown, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown, OH 44503.

Blessing of animals

BOARDMAN

St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will have its annual blessing of animals at 4 p.m. Sunday on the church lawn.

Dogs must be on leashes, and cats in carriers. Each animal will receive an individual blessing. For more information, call 330-758-2727.

Summer retreat

VILLA MARIA, Pa.

Villa Maria Education & Spirituality Center will have its first summer conference retreat, “Praying Peace: Harnessing the Energy of Creation,” presented by Barbara Fiand, a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur.

The cost for the full-week retreat is $385, which includes meals and overnight accommodations. A per-day rate of $77 also is available. Registration is required by Wednesday.

Rosary Cenacle

The Shine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted and Queen of the Holy Rosary prayer group will have a Rosary Cenacle at 6:30 p.m. June 8 in the Social Hall on Belle Vista Avenue. Refreshments will follow.

For spiritual directors

VILLA MARIA, Pa.

Villa Maria Spirituality and Education Center will offer a Spiritual Director’s Professional Day on June 6 and 7. Participants will employ case studies that have tested their faith and will examine their own lived faith and its effect on their practice of spiritual direction.

The program will be facilitated by Elizabeth A. Dreyer, professor of religious studies at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn.

The cost is $160 to stay Sunday through Tuesday and includes lodging and meals. Participants may stay one night for $120, which includes overnight accommodations and meals. Service for campers

ANDOVER

First United Methodist Church of Andover will sponsor drive-in outdoor services for campers and others beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Wildwood Acres Campgrounds, intersection of state Route 7 and Marvin Road.

Services, which are in the 39th year, will continue Sundays through Sept. 4. Special music will include Dan Schall on July 10 and Sound Witness on Aug. 14. Dave Scavuzzo, United Methodist Western Reserve district superintendent, will speak Aug. 21.

Gospel-album party

YOUNGSTOWN

The listening party and service for the release of the solo gospel- album project of Ella Peterson will be at 6 p.m. next Saturday at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave.

Peterson overcame a debilitating liver condition and is promoting the cause of organ donation, especially within the African-American community.

In partnership with Life Banc, a portion of the proceeds generated from the new release will support this vision.

Each One Reach One

COITSVILLE

Victory Christian Center will have Each One Reach One at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Riot youth building for students in grades 7-12.

The event will encourage children to change their lifestyles, and there will be food, music, giveaways, a DJ, dramas and a message by youth Pastor Nate Ortiz. Former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett will speak on decision-making.

Ascension worship

POLAND

Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran, 2985 Center Road, Poland, will have a festival worship for the Ascension of Our Lord at 7 p.m. Thursday. Members of Grace Lutheran in Austintown and Lord of Life Lutheran in Canfield also are participating. Presiding minister will be Pastor Julianne Smith of Prince of Peace.

Pastor Paul Toelke of Grace will preach, and Pastor Rebecca Richie of Lord of Life will be assisting minister. A combined choir will be under the direction of Tim Elder from Lord of Life and Karen Toth, organist of Prince of Peace.

Christian revival

Bridging of the Spirit Christian Center, 3024 Myron Ave., will present a revival with the theme “Come Back to Life” at 5 p.m. today with Pastor Emanuel Adams of Old Glory nondenominational church and at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bernadette Treece of Grave Evangelistic Temple.

‘Acting Black’

YOUNGSTOWN

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will have a slide presentation, “Acting Black,” at 4 p.m. June 5 by Yusuf Johnson from Cleveland on what’s happening in the African-American community and stores across Ohio.

It will address solutions for the violence in community among youths and young adults. The theme is based on II Samuel 22:33.

Celebration for pastor

The celebration of Pastor Ricky and Sister Gail Tigner’s first anniversary will be at Brentford House at 6 p.m. June 10. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Gary Rozier.
