Garcia, Palmer share Nelson lead

Sergio Garcia shot his second straight 4-under 66 on Friday for a share of the second-round lead with Ryan Palmer in the Byron Nelson Championship.

Palmer had a 67 to match Garcia at 8-under 132 on a sun-soaked day when the wind was gusting up to 36 mph.

Garcia topped the leaderboard after withdrawing after five holes in a British Open qualifier and passing up a practice round at TPC Four Seasons because of an infected fingernail on his left hand.

Tim Petrovic (66) and Scott Piercy (69) were three strokes back at 5 under. Nick Watney (68), Joe Ogilvie (70) and Chad Collins (69) followed at 4 under.

For the second year in a row, area amateur teenager Jordan Spieth made the cut. He was 3 under after a 68. Spieth’s high school graduation ceremony is today.

Senior PGA Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky.

Kiyoshi Murota shot a 5-under 67 to take a four-stroke lead over Nick Price and Hale Irwin in the suspended second round.

Murota, a 55-year-old touring pro and golf teacher from Japan, had an 11-under 133 total at Valhalla.

Price was one of 78 players who had to return to the course Friday morning to complete the first round because of weather delays. He polished off a 70 and was 7 under along with Irwin, a three-time U.S. Open champion who has won the Senior PGA four times. Irwin, who turns 66 next week, shot a 68.

Loren Roberts and Olin Browne were 6 under after 70s. Gary Hallberg was 5 under after a 67, and Tom Watson had a 70 to top the group at 4 under that also included Mark O’Meara (72).

BMW PGA Championship

VIRGINIA WATER, England

Alvaro Quiros birdied the final three holes for a 4-under 67 and a share of the second-round lead with Luke Donald and teenager Matteo Manassero.

Manassero birdied No. 18 for a 70, and Donald had a 72 to match Quiros at 6-under 136 on the Ernie Els-remodeled West Course at Wentworth. David Horsey (68), Jose Manuel Lara (70) and Thomas Aitken (67) were 4 under.

Donald, the overnight leader, opened with a bogey and also dropped strokes on Nos. 7 and 10.
