Boardman runners qualify for regionals


The Boardman boys track team qualified several athletes to the 2011 Regional Championship during the District Meet at Austintown May 20.

The Spartans finished fifth overall behind co-champions Hudson and Twinsburg. Marlington was third and Fitch finished fourth.

Sophomore Nathan Jones was district champ in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.10. He also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.44. Jones is also a member of the Boardman 4X200 meter relay team along with freshman Ivan Adu-Poku, senior Trae Robinson and junior Michael Moxley that qualified for regional in time of 1:29.9.

Robinson also qualified for the regional meet with a second place finish in the 400-meter run in a time of 49.82. Freshman Mark Hadley earned a regional spot and set a new school freshman record with his 4:27.6 time in the 1600-meter run which was good enough for fourth place. Senior Leandre Jackson finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6-2. Junior Allen Starkey is also regional qualifier with his jump of 20-3 in the long jump. The athletes will need to finish in the top four places of their events to advance to the 2011 State Championship Meet in Columbus.
