Boardman boys second at Fed track meet


The Boardman High School boys track team finished runners-up May 13 at the 2011 Federal League Track and Field Championship. The Spartans finished with 110 points and just a half point behind the league champion Austintown Fitch’s 110.5.

Boardman finished second overall in the final league standings.

The Spartans opened the meet with a season-best time in the 4X800-meter relay with the team of seniors Eddie Adu-Poku and Alex Scott, sophomore Sam Sheronovich and freshmen Alan Burns with a time of 8:18, which was good enough for fourth place. In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Clayvon Finch placed second in a time of 15.36 and sophomore Nathan Jones took second in 11.27 in the 100-meter dash.

In the 1600-meter run, freshman Mark Hadley placed third with a career-best time of 4:30. Senior Trae Robinson finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.88 seconds.

Jones took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.53, while in the 3200-meter run Hadley set a new BHS freshman record with a fourth-place time of 9:56. The Spartans 4X200-meter relay team of freshman Ivan Adu-Poku, Bodrick, Moxley and Jones took fourth in a time of 1:31.7.

Eddie Adu-Poku was second in the 800 run with a time of 2:00 and the 4X400-meter relay team of Robinson, Moxley, Ivan Adu-Poku and Jones took third in a time of 3:27.7.

In the field events, senior Leandre Jackson finished second with a leap of 6-2 in the high jump, while in the long jump Starkey took first with a leap of 21-5.
