Austintown woman pleads innocent

Austintown

A township woman charged with driving while intoxicated and child endangering will appear for a pretrial hearing at 1 p.m. July 25.

Barbara Harkabus, 44, of Wedgewood Drive, was charged May 19 after Austintown police were called to an accident at Forest Hill Drive and Elmwood Avenue just after 3 p.m., according to police reports.

Harkabus was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medications at the time of the crash, police said.

Harkabus appeared Monday in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown for arraignment where she entered pleas of innocent to both charges.

She told police she took three medications — Welbutrin, Ambien and Seroquel — and drank one alcoholic beverage. Her 5-year-old child was strapped into a car seat in the back of the vehicle. Neither was harmed, according to the report.
