Police investigate 1-car accident

POLAND

Police are investigating a one-car accident that occurred around 6:45 p.m. Thursday on North Lima Road, just south of Walker Mill Road.

The male driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, told officers that he swerved slightly and the next thing he remembered was realizing he was off the road and that his car came to rest against a tree, police said.

Officers said they did not detect any alcohol on the man, police said. Additional information was not available before press time.

Documentary looks at city’s shrinking

YOUNGSTOWN

A documentary that examines Youngstown’s plan to shrink its infrastructure to a more-manageable size will air at 9:30 tonight on Western Reserve PBS (WNEO 45.1).

It will repeat at 2 a.m. Saturday.

Titled “A Blueprint America Report: The Incredible Shrinking City,” the hourlong program is part of “Need to Know,” a PBS news program.

Blueprint America is a PBS project that examines America’s infrastructure and cities.

A Blueprint America film crew came to Youngstown in March to film the episode.

Blueprint America is examining older cities such as Youngstown as they reorganize and shrink themselves to better deliver services such as transportation, electricity and housing.

The city’s landmark efforts to shrink its urban footprint were first spelled out in the much-publicized Youngstown 2010 Plan.

Plans for buildings at Ponderosa Park

AUSTINTOWN

Mahoning County District Board of Health is working with Goshen Township trustees to condemn some structures on the site of the former Ponderosa Park and rehabilitate others.

The board discussed the situation during its meeting earlier this week and decided to condemn certain buildings deemed uninhabitable, noted Matthew Stefanak, health-board commissioner.

The health department also ordered the removal of several full trash bins from the property, Stefanak said.

Ponderosa Park, off U.S. Route 62 near Salem, was known for its outdoor concerts, but has fallen into disrepair in recent years.
