Trial ordered for teen in crash that killed 2

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania teenager has been ordered to stand trial in a crash that killed two elderly brothers in February.

Washington County authorities allege that 18-year-old Stormy Lynn Hunter was over the legal alcohol limit for her age when her SUV hit a car on Route 79 in North Strabane Township.

The car went over the side of a hill, and 65-year-old Nickolas Mercolini of Pittsburgh and 78-year-old Alex Mercolini Jr. of Pittsburgh were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their wives were hospitalized. Police said Hunter and her 17-year-old passenger were not hurt.

Authorities said Wednesday that a sensor showed that the car was traveling as fast as 92 mph before the crash.

Defense attorney Dan Hargrove questioned that estimate and noted that the victims were not wearing seat belts.
