BOARDMAN

The American Red Cross “CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers” eight-hour course in basic life support includes one-person and two-person CPR for infants, children and adults; rescue breathing for infants and children; use of pocket mask and bag-valve-mask; and use of automatic external defibrillators for adults and children.

The training meets or exceeds all the basic requirements for health-care workers and professional rescuers at any level and is accepted by the American Heart Association as equivalent to their Basic Life Support course.

Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley has added one more class before summer, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and June 2. Both classes must be taken for certification.

The $70 course fee includes a manual, all supplies necessary to complete the training, and a two-year certification upon successful completion.

Class size is limited. The Red Cross recommends early paid registration to reserve a slot. The training facility is located at 8381 Market St., near the Boardman Campus of St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering classes on blood-borne pathogens/preventing disease transmission, adult CPR, and standard first aid from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 6 at 8381 Market St. Those attending may choose all three courses, any combination of two, or a single offering.

The cost for the entire day is $75; the two-module safety segment is $55. Anyone interested in any single segment should call for further information.

Blood-borne pathogens training will be from 8 to 9:15 a.m. The cost is $20.

Grant applications

YOUNGSTOWN

The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization formed in 2007, is accepting grant applications for 2011.

The group’s mission is the furtherance of charitable and financial support and volunteer services to and for chronically and terminally ill children on a local, regional and national level.

AEDs dedicated

ALLIANCE

Alliance Community Hospital, 200 E. State St., recently dedicated three new automatic external defibrillators, which are located in the main lobbies of the hospital, its Professional Office Building and its adjacent exercise center “The Sweat Shop.”

The hospital staff, through the 2009 Colleague Campaign, raised more than $3,000 toward the purchase of the AEDs.

Imaging services

FARRELL, PA.

UPMC Horizon has integrated a high-definition 64-slice computed tomography system, the new LightSpeed VCT XT configured system from GE Healthcaone, into the Shenango Valley Campus’ range of imaging services.

The equipment delivers high-quality images of the anatomy with improved resolution and up to a 40-percent lower radiation dose, hospital officials said in a press release.
