BASEBALL

Senior pitcher Phil Klein was named second team All-Horizon League and freshman third baseman Drew Dosch (Canal Winchester) was named to the all-newcomer team on Tuesday. Klein (Gahanna Lincoln) was named first-team all-league in 2009. Klein went 4-5 with a 3.74 ERA this year while leading the league with 95 strikeouts and ranking fifth in innings. In eight conference games, he was 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 512⁄3 innings. In April he went 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA in four starts. Dosch missed 13 games with an injury but still hit .252 overall and .310 in Horizon League play. Wright State claimed four of the top five individual awards. WSU’s Jake Hibberd was named player of the year, Michael Schum was named relief pitcher of the year, Corey Davis was voted newcomer of the year and Rob Cooper was named coach of the year. Milwaukee’s Chad Pierce was named pitcher of the year.

FOOTBALL TICKETS

Fans who renew or purchase season tickets for the 2011 season will be entered in a drawing to win a road trip with the Penguins this season. Individuals must renew or buy season tickets before June 30. The trip will be either the Nov. 5 game at UNI or Nov. 12 at North Dakota State. The winner will be allowed to bring one companion and YSU will cover the expense of the flight, hotel room, on-site transportation and game ticket. The only thing not covered is meals during the trip. Season-ticket prices for the 2011 campaign are $84 for reserved seats and $60 for general admission. To purchase season tickets contact the athletic ticket office (330-941-1978).

Also, tickets for the Sept. 2 game at Michigan State will be available for Gridiron Club members of the Penguin Club and for season-ticket holders, based upon availability. Each ticket is $55, which includes a processing fee. The ticket office will hold a one-day sale tickets for YSU students in August. There will be no sale of Michigan State tickets to non-season ticket holders or non-Penguin Club members. YSU Traveline is offering an overnight round-trip motorcoach transportation for $150 per double occupancy (game ticket not included). The cost includes lodging at the team hotel, bus transportation and lunch on Friday. The trip will leave from the YSU campus at 9 a.m. on Friday and return to Youngstown on Saturday. ACADEMICS

Youngstown State student-athletes set highs for combined cumulative grade-point average, number of athletes with a cumulative GPA above 3.0 while 59 percent had a semester GPA above 3.00. YSU’s 16 athletic teams posted a combined cumulative GPA of 3.06 during the 2011 spring semester. Thirteen programs had GPA’s above 3.00 while men’s cross country had a 2.99 GPA and men’s basketball finished with a 2.96 GPA. Of the 314 student-athletes in the department, 177 own a cumulative GPA above a 3.00. During the winter semester, 183 student-athletes posted a GPA of better than a 3.00. Football led the way with 38 players eclipsing that mark. The women’s cross country program had the highest GPA of all programs as its six members combined for a 3.77 mark. Soccer ranked second at 3.43 while swimming and diving was third at 3.40 and women’s basketball was fourth at 3.31. The tennis team led the men’s side with a 3.20 cumulative mark. Individually, 33 student-athletes had semester GPAs of 4.00.
