Police: 6-year-old takes loaded gun to Canton school

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Police say a 6-year-old boy took a loaded gun to school after telling officials his father had been involved in a shooting.

Canton Police Capt. David Kurzinsky tells The Repository newspaper a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic pistol was confiscated. A police report says officers were called this morning to Gibbs Elementary School, and that the boy’s mother had failed to properly secure the weapon from her son.

Kurzinsky says the boy and others who live with him had told others on Tuesday that their father had been involved in a shooting. He says the claim was false.

Stark County court records show a warrant was issued today for the boy’s mother on a child-endangering charge.
