Ohio mom of bullied teen to testify on House bill

COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio mother who says taunting over a nude cellphone picture led to her teen daughter’s suicide was to testify today before a state legislative panel in favor of anti-bullying legislation.

An Ohio House panel is reviewing a bill named after Cynthia Logan’s daughter. The “Jessica Logan Act” would require public schools to expand their bullying policies to prohibit harassment by cellphones, computers and other electronic means.

Under the bill, school administrators could discipline students who “cyberbully” on buses and off school grounds.

Schools would also be required to provide anti-cyberbulling training to teachers.

Jessica Logan’s parents say the 18-year-old hanged herself in 2008 after weeks of ridicule at her school in Cincinnati. She had sent her boyfriend a nude cellphone picture, which he forwarded to others.
