Nursing homes tone down ad in Ohio budget fight
COLUMBUS (AP) — A group of Ohio nursing homes has toned down its message in a new round of ads opposing budget cuts proposed by Gov. John Kasich.
TV spots released Tuesday by the Ohio Health Care Association again urge opposition to direct cuts of $222 million with an estimated $427 million economic impact.
But they remove a plea from earlier ads to “call before it’s too late,” which was accompanied by a plug being pulled from the wall and an EKG heard flat-lining. Kasich, AARP, newspapers and others condemned the association for scare tactics.
The new ads suggest those who criticized the earlier ads “want to shoot the messenger.”
Senate President Tom Niehaus is convening a group of lawmakers to consider nursing-home funding over the Memorial Day weekend.
