Artist on bike trip to make local stop

YOUNGSTOWN

Artist Joe Bigley is biking a route that is the same size and shape of Afghanistan in the eastern United States.

His 3,436-mile “traversing foreign borders domestically” trip began May 12 at ground zero in New York, where it will end.

The journey will take him as far south as Alabama and west as Illinois, with speaking stops along the way. One such stop is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at The Lemon Grove, 122 W. Federal St.

The goal of Bigley’s project is to gauge public opinion on the conflict in Afghanistan.

Bigley, 31, is an art instructor at Appalachian State University.
