Boy's death linked to Ohio child-cancer cluster

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Family members say another child linked to a cancer cluster in northern Ohio has died.

That brings the number of child deaths to four in the rural area where 35 children have been diagnosed with cancer since 1996.

John Kistler of Fremont tells Toledo TV station WTOL that his 13-year-old son Haden died on Saturday.

Haden has lived in Clark Fork, Idaho, with his mother in recent years, but before that he had lived in Ohio’s Sandusky County, where investigators say the cancer cluster is centered. He developed a brain tumor in 2009.

Investigators in Ohio have not identified what is causing the illnesses within a 12-mile-wide circle that includes two small towns just south of Lake Erie.
