Area storms downs lines, cuts power

YOUNGSTOWN

More than 1,000 Mahoning and Trumbull county residents were without power following a severe thunderstorm Wednesday night.

David Turner, spokesman for Ohio Edison, said about 500 residents in the Youngstown area lost power, though he couldn’t give exact location. Parts of Campbell, coitsville and Austintown also were without power.

A dispatcher with the Youngstown Fire Department said downed power lines caused outages along Mahoning and Glenellen avenues and Marshall Street.

Robin Patton of Ohio Edison said 850 customers scattered across Trumbull County were without power Wednesday night. She said it’s unknown when power would be restored to those customers.

Agencies in Columbiana and Mercer counties, including Farrell and Sharon, reported lines and trees down. Mercer County dispatch also reported some residents to be without power.
