Ohio teen guilty in shopping center shooting death

COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio teen has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for fatally shooting his brother at shopping center.

The Franklin County prosecutor’s office says 17-year-old Andrew Kelley also pleaded guilty today to an unrelated count of robbery.

A judge accepted the pleas and sentenced Kelley to 12 years in prison.

Kelley was initially charged as a juvenile with murder in 15-year-old Andrake Kelley’s death. He agreed to have the case transferred to adult court in the plea deal.

Authorities say the brothers were with friends at the suburban Columbus shopping center Feb. 12 and got into a dispute with other teens.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that prosecutors say Kelley admitted firing a small-caliber handgun “three times into the air” and didn’t realize he struck his brother in the head. Andrake Kelley died several days later.
