Ohio AG lauds drug take-back program

COLUMBUS — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine reported today that more than 10 tons of prescription medications were turned in and disposed of across Ohio during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 30.

Ohio's 237 Take Back sites collected more than 20,200 pounds of medications. That's a 39 percent increase over last year, when Ohio collected 14,500 pounds of unused prescription drugs at 196 sites.

"The response was excellent," said Attorney General DeWine. "Every unused pill turned in is one more that won't be abused or get into the hands of small children who could accidentally poison themselves."

This was the second year for the program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice – Drug Enforcement Administration, in cooperation with local and state law enforcement, local health departments and businesses.
