YOUNGSTOWN

A man accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl for several months could spend up to 19 years behind bars when he is sentenced in July.

Treven Johnson, 23, of West Glen-aven and Arch Street, was scheduled to go on trial this week before a jury in the court of Judge James Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, but entered into a plea agreement Monday with prosecutors just before the trial began.

Johnson had been charged with 20 counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition. Under the plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition. He could receive up to 19 years in prison.

Judge Evans will sentence Johnson on July 13.

The 20 counts of rape, according to Johnson’s indictment filed in June 2010, stem from the multiple rapes of a Youngstown girl who was 13 year at the time. The indictment says the crimes took place for several months between 2008 and 2009.

According to police reports, the girl’s mother learned of the sexual assaults on her daughter in May 2009 and took the girl to the police department to file a report.

Police reports say the girl told officers she had been staying at the South Side home of a relative on West Glenaven Avenue at various times when Johnson and an unnamed male juvenile would have sex with her.

Police questioned the juvenile who denied having sex with the girl, but admitted touching her.

It is unclear if Johnson is related to the victim.

Reports say the mother took the girl to a women’s center for testing after learning of the sexual activity. The mother, at that time, learned the girl was 20 weeks pregnant.

Johnson has been free on $50,000 bond and on electronically monitored house arrest since July 2010.
