Jury begins deliberations in Mass. Kerrigan trial

WOBURN, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts jury has begun deliberating in the manslaughter trial of the brother of Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan.

A Woburn Superior Court jury got the case just before noon today after hearing closing arguments from a prosecutor and defense attorney.

Mark Kerrigan is charged in the 2010 death of his 70-year-old father, Daniel Kerrigan.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley told the jury an “angry, mean, nasty, drunk” Mark Kerrigan caused his father’s death when he allegedly grabbed him around the neck, fracturing cartilage in his larynx and triggering his heart failure.

Kerrigan’s defense attorney told the jury that longstanding heart disease caused Daniel Kerrigan’s death.
