Public art project at YSU festival

YOUNGSTOWN

Building on the success of last year’s Three Letters Banner project, the Summer Festival of the Arts is collaborating with Art Youngstown to produce and exhibit a second public art project, “Here Comes the Sun.”

Area artists are invited to create outdoor garden ornaments incorporating a sun-inspired theme using metal disks provided by Art Youngstown Inc. The use of recycled or repurposed materials is encouraged. The finished ornaments will be hung during the Summer Festival of the Arts on July 9 and 10 at Youngstown State University. There is no cost to participate. Artists must be at least 16.

To register, email lafactor@ysu.edu or call 330-941-3105. Materials will be available for pick-up June 1 and 2 at Bliss Hall on the YSU campus.

‘God of Carnage’ will close season

PITTSBURGH

Pittsburgh Public Theater closes its season with the comedy “God of Carnage,” winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play. Directed by Ted Pappas, “God of Carnage” runs Thursday through June 26 at the O’Reilly Theater, Penn Avenue, downtown. For tickets, call 412-316-1600 or go to ppt.org.

“God of Carnage” is set in a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood, where two married couples get together to discuss a playground fight that took place between their young sons. The meeting starts well enough, but the veneer of refinement is soon scratched and these adults find themselves behaving like primitive children.

Tickets range from $35.75 to $60.75 ($15.75 for students and age 26 and younger with valid ID).
