23-year-old man pleads guilty to reduced charges in sex-assault case


YOUNGSTOWN — A man accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl for several months could spend up to 19 years behind bars when he is sentenced in July.

Treven Johnson, 23, of West Glenaven and Arch Street, was scheduled to go on trial this week before a jury in the court of Judge James Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, but entered into a plea agreement today with prosecutors.

Johnson had been charged with 20 counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition. Under the plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition.

Judge Evans will sentence Johnson on July 13. Johnson could spend up to 19 years in prison.
