Junior Civic League to award scholarships to 8 Valley students


YOUNGSTOWN

The Junior Civic League will award college scholarships to eight Mahoning Valley high school graduates during an annual Scholarship Luncheon at 2 p.m. June 5 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St., Boardman.

The recipients have been selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community involvement and personal qualities and strengths.

Recipients of the Cinderella Ball scholarships will be the following: Asia Walker, “Miss Cinderella,” $2,500; Keisha Talley, first attendant, $1,800; and Tiara Williams, second attendant, $1,500.

A scholarship of $1,500 for the 2011-2012 academic year will be awarded each of the following: Davina Groover of Hubbard High School; Rakia Levesque of Ursuline High School; Bianca Rozenblad of Liberty High School; Daysha Williams of Youngstown Early College; and Nea Wolford of Mineral Ridge High School.

During the event JCL will induct Crystal Hawthorne, Jerrine King and Yvette Clark-Kirksey as new members.

The event will feature a basket auction for more than 20 gift baskets and gift certificates donated by JCL members, businesses, organizations and individuals.
