Division III

Newton Falls 5, Grand Valley 2

WARREN

The Tigers (10-7) scored two runs on a passed ball to take a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. Andy Lubonovic singled twice for the Tigers who play Champion today at 3 p.m. in the sectional tournament. Tyler Kernen (5-0) limited the Mustangs to three hits with nine strikeouts.

Lakeview 12, Liberty 7

STRUTHERS

Jake Pishotti had two hits and three RBIs for the Bulldogs (12-9), who will play Independence in a district final today in Euclid. A.J. Hrusovsky went 4-for-4, while Justin Misterka had three hits and Darren Hamilton, Anthony Franco and Kevin Arnold each had three hits. For Liberty (7-7), Mark Seals had three hits and Ryan Halicki and Justin House each had two hits.

SOFTBALL

Division I

Boardman 13, Mayfield 2

BOARDMAN

Alex DiDomenico pitched five innings of one-hit ball and was 3-for-4 at the plate, as were Missy Demarinis and Kayleigh Huck for Boardman. Julie Sokol also had two hits and Nicola Gabriele hit a two-run homer for the Spartans, who will play Olmsted Falls at 11 a.m. today for the district title at Fields of Dreams. Boardman has won two straight district crowns.

Olmsted Falls 8, Howland 7

BOARDMAN

Erika Nites had two doubles, Alyse March had a pair of singles and Christina Brindley homered for Howland (14-5), which had the tying run on second base in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn’t come up with the big hit. Lauren Rodgers hit a grand slam in the first inning and a three-run homer in the fifth for Olmsted Falls (14-6).

Division III

South Range 10, Mineral Ridge 0

LISBON

South Range scored five runs in the first inning on triples by Carly DeRose, Emily Seman and Stevie Taylor, and Madison Yanek did the rest with a two-hitter. She struck out four. Yanek also had two hits, including a double, for the Raiders (24-3), while Kristin Robinson singled twice. Seman had two RBIs.

Ursuline 9, East Palestine 2

LISBON

Kelli Kolenich had two doubles, including one that cleared the bases with two outs in the top of the first, and Briana Curd went 4-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs to lead Ursuline (17-8), which will meet South Range at 3 p.m. today for the district title. Macey Gunther had three hits, including a triple, and Marina Bermann hit a two-run homer. Nicholette Maderitz added two hits and got the win, scattering seven hits while striking out 10 and walking one. Carly Blair doubled for East Palestine (13-7).

Division II

West Branch 4, Field 2

ALLIANCE

Cheyenne Miller tossed a four-hitter and Brandi Snyder and Tia King had two hits apiece for West Branch (14-7) in a district semifinal at Alliance High School. Miller, Brittany Lippencott and Taylor Morris drove in runs in a four-run third for the Warriors, who play Alliance today at 11 a.m. for the district title.

Division IV

East Canton 6, Western Reserve 1

CORTLAND

Letitia Bittinger threw a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts and four walks to lead East Canton in a district semifinal. Bittinger also had two hits, including a triple, and Mandy Wolfe had two hits for East Canton (9-8), which will play Columbiana at 2:30 p.m. today for the district title. April Lude homered for Western Reserve (17-6).

Regular season

Struthers 3, Lakeview 2

SALEM

Rachel Affagato (6-6) threw a complete game and gave up no earned runs for the Wildcats (11-13, 5-2 AAC White). Taylor Waid singled twice for the Bulldogs (12-5, 6-2).

Lakeview 6, Salem 1

SALEM

Alyssa Nicholas doubled and Jamie Sentner had two RBIs for Lakeview. Salem fell behind 5-0 in the third.
