More than 70 Canfield Village Middle School students performed for peanuts, as part of the school’s spring musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” May 6-7 at Canfield High School.

Jonathan Palermo played Charlie Brown, the beloved character from Charles Schulz’ comic strips who tries to win the heart of the Little Red Haired girl and everyone else.

His friends, Lucy (Naomi Emerick in Friday’s show, Samantha Armstrong on Saturday), her crush, the piano-playing maestro Schroeder (Kyle Anderson) and sometimes even Linus (Matt Stevens) and Charlie’s dog Snoopy (Sydney Miller, Maddy Gulfo) seem to think he’s a good man, but not always the best.

Charlie continues his quest through a Valentine-less Valentine’s Day and a baseball game he manages to lose for the entire team, despite valiant efforts not to strike out. He rallies to find happiness in everyday life, whether he succeeds in that day’s efforts or not.

“I love Charlie Brown. I think it’s such a great show, and just perfect for our seventh and eighth grade to perform,” said Palermo.

Amy Goddard, Charlie’s sister, Sally from Saturday night’s show, agreed.

“It’s Charlie Brown, who doesn’t love Charlie Brown?”
