SOCIETY DIGEST: Bowl-A-Thon to aid member of church
YOUNGSTOWN
The First Christian Church of Girard is having a benefit Bowl-A-Thon for one of its members, Tom Pustay, who has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
The benefit is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18 at Westside Bowling Lanes, 3320 Mahoning Ave. Baskets will be raffled off, and all the proceeds will benefit Pustay and his medical expenses. Any donation would be appreciated.
Dinner will benefit Taylor Veisz fund
GIRARD
The seventh and final annual spaghetti dinner and basket auction to benefit The Taylor Lee Veisz Memorial Scholarship Fund will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 122 S. State St.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 330-727-8490 or 330-651-0054. Three sets of Browns home game tickets will be available for bidding.
The cost for adults is $8, and for children it’s $5. The meal is all you can eat, and carryout is available.
Veisz was killed by a drunk driver at age 19. To date, 17 scholarships for students pursuing careers in fine and performing arts have been awarded in Taylor’s memory.

YWCA schedules women’s conference
YOUNGSTOWN
The YWCA of Youngstown will host its 4th annual Women’s Leadership Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 10 at Youngstown Country Club, 1402 Country Club Drive.
The conference will cover such topics as investing, launching a business, yoga/nutrition and self-defense. Also featured will be a basket raffle, door prize, networking opportunities, and resource and vendor tables.
The entry fee is $30 per person or $20 for full-time students (take I.D.). Group registrations are $200 for eight participants. Lunch is included. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.
