Jurors deliberating in microwave death sentencing

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio jury has resumed deliberating on whether to recommend the death penalty for a woman convicted of cooking her baby daughter to death in a microwave oven.

The Dayton Daily News reports deliberations in the sentencing portion of China Arnold’s third trial lasted 2 1/2 hours Thursday. A bailiff tells The Associated Press the jury began the second day of deliberations around 8:30 a.m. today.

The same jury found the 31-year-old Arnold guilty of aggravated murder last week in her third trial in the August 2005 death of 28-day-old Paris Talley.

Arnold’s first trial ended in a mistrial. She was found guilty in the second, but an appeals court reversed the conviction.

If the jury finds that Arnold deserves a death sentence, the judge may accept or reject the recommendation.
