Elkins and Prusky set district marks

ANDOVER

Andre Elkins of LaBrae and Destiny Prusky of Newton Falls established district records at the Division II track & field championships on Thursday at Pymatuning Valley High School.

Elkins, a senior, leaped 21 feet, 81/2 inches to win the long jump by almost 11/2 feet over runner-up Justin Miller of Niles.

Elkins broke the old record of 21-71/2, set by Toma Leveto of Lakeview last year.

In the high jump, Prusky reached 5-5.25 to win the event and break the old record of 5-5, set by Lizzy Ziemski of Jefferson in 2009.

Elkins and Prusky were the only area athletes to qualify for next week’s regional championships at Ravenna High School.

The second day of the district meet is Saturday.

Geneva leads the girls standings with 25 points, followed by Streetsboro (20) and Crestwood (19).

In the boys standings, Ashtabula Edgewood leads with 29 points, with Southeast (26) and Pymatuning Valley (18) following.

LAKEVIEW DISTRICT

CORTLAND

The Lakeview boys scored 53 points took a commanding lead in the team standings after four events at Lakeview High School.

Junior Louie Novakovich (first in the pole vault, second in the long jump) and senior Toma Leveto (first in the long jump) piled up points, as did the winning 4x800 relay team of senior Daniel Marhulik, sophomore Eric Harris, senior Nick Trip and senior Aaron Jesse.
