YMTA students to perform at awards recital Sunday
YOUNGSTOWN
An awards recital at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bliss Recital Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University will feature 12 of the 29 students who participated in the YSU-Youngstown Music Teachers’ Association Master’s Competition on May 14.
The free recital will feature the award-winning students at various levels who will present selections in violin, voice and piano.
Performing will be the following:
Division Pre-A, kindergarten through third grade: Kate Li, daughter of Frank Li and Teresa Ren of Warren, piano; Cecilia Schuler, daughter of Michael and Rhonda Schuler of Poland, piano; and Benson Zheng, son of Anita Lin of Boardman, piano.
Division A, fourth through sixth grades: Rohun Vangal, son of Pandu and Archana Vangal of Boardman, piano; and Jacob Smotzer, son of Tom and Cynthia Smotzer of Boardman, piano.
Division B, seventh through ninth grades: Shawn Rast, son of Robert and Karen Rast of Salem, piano; and David Shon, son of In Wha Shon of Boardman, the winner in both piano and violin performance.
Division C, 10th through 12th grades: Hayley Ward, daughter of Bob and Laura Ward of Canfield, piano; Lindsay Kirkham-Olsen, daughter of Melanie Olsen and Thomas Kirkham of Boardman, piano; and Tyler Stouffer, son of Lori Stouffer of Salem, voice.
Division D, concerto: Kristi Yazvac, daughter of Tom and Diane Yazvac of Boardman, piano.
Each of the competition winners received a cash award of $50.
Teachers represented will be Diane Debiec, Fanny DiDomenico, Elizabeth Masternick, Susan Owens, Audrey Rhinehart and Diane Yazvac, piano; Corinne Morini, voice; and John Wilcox, violin.
Professor Dr. Alice Wang was chairwoman for the competition and Rhinehart is YMTA president.
