Man sentenced in DUI crash that injured Erie coach

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 3-5 years in prison for a DUI crash that left a Mercyhurst College hockey coach paralyzed.

Fifty-year-old Allen Peters was sentenced in Erie County Court on Wednesday. He had pleaded guilty in March to a felony count of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI.

Police say Peters, of Erie, was driving drunk when he struck 25-year-old Kristen Cameron, who was riding a bicycle, in September. The Erie Times-News reports the accident left Cameron, an assistant hockey coach at Mercyhurst College, a quadriplegic.

Peters apologized in court to Cameron, who was not present.

Prosecutors say Cameron, a native of Prince Edward Island, remains in a rehabilitation hospital in Toronto.
