YOUNGSTOWN

The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is accepting grant applications for 2011. The group’s mission is the furtherance of charitable and financial support and volunteer services to and for chronically and terminally ill children on a local, regional and national level. July 1 is the deadline for applications. The maximum grant is $1,000. For more information, visit www.hopemv.org.

Imaging services

FARRELL, PA.

UPMC Horizon has integrated a high-definition 64-slice computed tomography (CT) system, the new LightSpeed VCT XT configured system from GE Healthcaone, into the Shenango Valley Campus’ range of imaging services. The equipment delivers high-quality images of the anatomy with improved resolution and up to a 40 percent lower radiation dose.

Family Fun Day

AKRON

Athletes, kids and even the family dog are invited to join Akron Children’s Hospital for its 26th annual Kids Are #1 Run and Family Fun Day on June 5. Event activities begin at 11 a.m. in Perkins Square Park at the hospital and the first running event, the Miracle Mile intended for competitive runners capable of running less than an 8-minute mile begins at 1 p.m. The Fun Run, a one-mile, non-competitive run for all ages, walkers and runners, starts at 1:15 p.m. followed by a competitive 5K Run through downtown Akron and Glendale Cemetery. Dog owners and their canine companions may join Akron Children’s Doggie Brigade for Paws for a Cause, a one-mile, non-competitive run/walk, at 2:30 p.m.

Participants may register up to 15 minutes before the start of each race. Pre-registration ends June 1. The Fun Run and Miracle Mile cost is $10 per person and the 5K Run and Paws for a Cause events cost $15 per person. Participants will receive a $5 discount for joining more than one race. Free adjustments

BOARDMAN

Dr. James Mussler is offering free adjustments June 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with donations to his Poland Relay for Life team at his office at 843 Boardman-Canfield Road. Adjustments are free to patients with a $10 Relay donation and an examination and X-ray to potential new patients with a $20 Relay donation. There will be free food, games and door prizes. The event is in honor of Dr. Mussler’s mother, LuLu Mussler. For details, call 330-758-9567.

Defibrillators dedicated

ALLIANCE

Alliance Community Hospital, during Hospital Week 2011, dedicated three new automatic external defibrillators which are located in the main lobbies of the hospital and its Professional Office Building and its adjacent exercise center, “The Sweat Shop.” The hospital staff, through the 2009 Colleague Campaign, raised more than $3,000 toward the purchase of the AEDs.
