$8K missing from evidence locker

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in a Philadelphia suburb are trying to figure out what happened to $8,000 that is missing from an evidence locker.

Police in Upper Darby say the money, removed from a residence in November 2009, may have been mistakenly destroyed.

Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood tells the Delaware County Daily Times that authorities discovered the money was missing earlier this month after getting a court order to return the personal property and cash.

Chitwood says it was seized after police responded to a domestic incident.

The department has launched an investigation into the missing money and is working with the district attorney’s office. But Chitwood says the money may have been destroyed.
