Voters give Pa. high school student nod for school board

BIRDSBORO, Pa. (AP) — Finally, a student politician who might be able to follow through on promises to cut homework and extend recess.

Daniel Boone High School junior Connor Kurtz won both the Democratic and Republican nominations for school board on Tuesday night and will appear on the ballot in November’s general election.

Kurtz tells the Reading Eagle newspaper that voters are looking for a “new voice” on the school board. The self-described fiscal conservative says he would encourage frugality on what he views as a spend-happy board.

Kurtz bested three other candidates, all of whom ran on both tickets.
