POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

May 10

Criminal mischief: An Edgewater Drive man discovered damage to a portion of his driveway.

May 11

Menacing: A woman in the 8300 block of Morningside Drive filed a report.

Harassment: A woman in the 3500 block of Peddlers Court said a neighbor has been harassing her.

May 13

Citation: Police cited 64-year-old John W. McAuley, 2802 Poland Village Drive, Poland, on a disorderly-conduct charge after a worker for Burger King, 3350 Center Road, reported a customer in the drive-through had argued with employees and appeared to be intoxicated.

May 14

Criminal mischief: Eighty feet of lawn damage was reported in the 5100 block of Youngstown-Poland Road.

BOARDMAN

May 13

Domestic violence: Michael J. Soloski, 22, was arrested at his home, 2029 Thalia Ave., Boardman, on charges of domestic violence and vehicular vandalism after a family member alleged that while driving on Youngstown-Poland Road, Soloski shot at her with a pellet gun. She was not injured, though.

Possible theft: A North Lima woman reported her $5,000 wedding ring was lost or stolen while she was at a Boardman-Poland Road store.

Arrest: Police in the 800 block of East Midlothian Boulevard pulled over 52-year-old Joseph A. Guthrie, 247 W. Main St., Canfield, who was wanted on a warrant accusing him of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Theft: Freda M. Santangelo, 65, of 121 Prestwick Drive, Boardman, was charged in the theft of $61 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive.

Theft: A Straley Road man reported his daughter’s $100 bicycle stolen.

Theft: A 14-year-old Youngstown boy was charged with stealing two bandanas from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, then released to the custody of his grandmother.

Theft: Chelsey S. Chaney of 2741 Newbern Circle, Youngstown, and Samantha L. Gibbons of 1641 Thalia Ave., Poland, both 18, were charged, accused of taking two sweat shirts and one pair of sweat pants from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall. Both were released on summonses.

Theft: Two men stole 29 mountain shirts and 36 bottles of cologne from Abercrombie & Fitch in the Southern Park Mall, costing the store more than $3,900.

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to enter an apartment in the 2000 block of Wolosyn Circle through a rear sliding-glass door.

Vandalism: Someone did $600 in damage to a landscaping wall on property in the 7100 block of Market Street.

Theft: A Sugarcane Drive man told police he issued a $978 check to the owner of a township company to install glass-block windows, but never heard from the business.

Theft: Two 24-ounce cans of beer were taken from a Shell True North gas station, 1510 Boardman-Canfield Road.

May 14

Theft/drugs: Ceira M. Buckner, 23, of 412 Ferndale Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft as well as possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia after a $22 dress was stolen from Dot’s, 339 Boardman-Canfield Road. Buckner also had a plastic tube with a powder that tested positive for cocaine.

Menacing: Officers charged 21-year-old Jeffrey R. Sterling, 25 Camelot Drive, Columbiana, with menacing by stalking after a woman at a South Avenue business alleged Sterling, in violation of a protection order, had chased and grabbed her.

Aggravated menacing: A worker for a Southern Boulevard business reported a man threatened to harm the accuser and blow up his vehicle during an argument regarding money owed.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Interstate 680 led to 31-year-old Christian M. Lewis’ arrest. Lewis, of 748 Miller Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court and was cited on a charge of driving under suspension.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 70 block of Lemans Drive through the front door. Among items stolen were a cellphone, $300 and a DVD player.

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to force open a garage door in the 5500 block of West Boulevard, though no entry was gained.

Arrest: Police responding to an argument near a Market Street motel took a 17-year-old Youngstown girl into custody who was wanted on a pick-up order from the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

May 15

Drugs: A traffic stop on Southern Boulevard led to two drug-abuse charges against 31-year-old Jeremy Vivo, 4852 Middletown Road, New Middletown, when, police said, he had two prescription bottles with no prescription label.

Menacing: A worker for a Market Street restaurant reported getting a threatening call.

Criminal damaging: Two boys were seen tossing bricks at West Boulevard Elementary School, 6125 West Blvd. Several windows were broken.

Theft: Ashley R. Perry, 26, of 5391 W. Middletown Road, Canfield, and 28-year-old Nicole L. DeGenaro, 2700 Taft Ave., Youngstown, faced felony charges, accused of stealing 40 pieces of jewelry from Sears in the Southern Park Mall. The loss was estimated at $2,200.

Theft: Five people left King Hookah Smoking Lounge, 7393 California Ave., without paying their $48.32 food bill.

Theft: A car stereo, $56 and a wallet were removed from a vehicle in the 5700 block of Sheridan Road.

Criminal damaging: Large dents were found on a truck’s passenger side in the 40 block of Sciota Avenue. Damage came to $1,000

Theft: Two men stole nine pieces of jewelry from Sears.

Theft: Two people in their 30s stole about $50 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave.

May 16

Domestic violence: Robert M. Smrek, 54, of 5008 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged that an intoxicated Smrek had tossed her into a tub and shoved a shower nozzle into her face during an argument. She suffered a cut to her lower lip.

Domestic violence: Authorities charged 35-year-old Lorey A. Weston, 7511 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, after her mother alleged Weston had slammed a door during an argument, striking the accuser’s head and knocking her backward. The woman was not seriously hurt, however.
