Cab driver injured in robbery

Police are looking for a man in his early 20s who robbed a cab driver of his fare and caused the man to crash into a house on the South Side.

According to police, the 28-year-old cab driver picked up a black man with darker skin, in all dark clothes and of average weight and height, at 11:14 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Auburndale Avenue. The man was taken to the 400 block of Kist Place.

The driver told police he informed the passenger that the fare for the ride was $7.75 once he reached the Kist address. The driver told police the man attacked him from behind as soon as he told him the cost of the ride.

The driver was hit over the head with a blunt object and injured then grabbed from behind. Reports say the two men ultimately ended up in the back seat of the car fighting as the car, which was still in drive, rolled down the street.

The car rolled into the front of a house on Kist with the two men still fighting in the back seat. The passenger jumped out of the car and ran after the car hit the house, according to police reports.

Police found the driver sitting near the taxi bleeding heavily from his head wound. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
