A new campaign committee has been created to help raise money in the push to block parts of the new federal health care overall from taking effect in Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Ohioans for Healthcare Freedom will fundraise and spearhead the campaign effort to pass a proposed amendment to the state constitution. The amendment calls for eliminating a requirement in the law that nearly all Americans obtain health insurance.

Campaign manager Jeff Longstreth tells the newspaper that the group plans to run a full-scale and aggressive campaign after enough signatures are gathered to qualify the amendment for the Nov. 8 election.

He says about 320,000 signatures have been gathered so far. About 386,000 signatures of registered Ohio voters are required by July 6 to qualify for the ballot.
