Eagle award

Brian W. Lawson, 18, of Boardman, a son of Paula Behe and Bill Lawson, recently received his Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor, at a court-of-honor ceremony at Boardman United Methodist Church.

Lawson is a member of Troop 46, located at the church. He joined the troop in 2004. Scoutmaster is Eric Grabman.

He has earned 31 merit badges and has been the troop’s assistant senior patrol leader and patrol leader. His awards are the Arrow of Light, Ad Altari Dei Medal and Ordeal member of the Wapashuwi Lodge, Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Lawson planned, designed, coordinated and supervised the installation of a handicapped-accessible area to surround the Oscar D. Boggess Homestead and Quarry Ohio Historical Marker on Edwards Street in Youngstown. A 10-foot-long path, and 7-foot-wide circle of brick pavers around the marker was installed and flowers and mulch were placed at the marker’s base.

Lawson is a senior at Boardman High School, where he is a member of the marching band, orchestra and art club. He is a member and usher at St. Stanislaus Church, Youngstown.

Mechanical engineer

Michael Alexander, formerly of Boardman, has received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

He is a 2001 graduate of Boardman High School and graduated summa cum laude in 2006 from University of Cincinnati, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 2008.

Alexander has accepted a position in Global Research & Development at General Motors, Warren, Michigan.

He is the son of Dale and Dwendolyn Alexander of Boardman.
