Camp Fitch open house today

NORTH SPRINGFIELD, Pa.

Life can get pretty busy for the mother of four teenage girls, so Sue Allen of Canfield has a mental vacation spot.

“You know when people say ‘Go to your happy place’ in your heart and in your mind?” Allen asks. “My happy place is Camp Fitch.”

Located on a 450-acre plot where North Springfield meets Lake Erie, Camp Fitch has been a summer camping experience for families in Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania for nearly 100 years.

The camp — a branch of the YMCA of Youngstown — combines swimming, sailing, water skiing, horseback riding and more to make summer a time of exploration and excitement for many, like Allen.

amp Fitch continues to offer family camping as well as weeklong sessions for boys and girls, age 8 to 16, who want to strike out on their own, learn new skills and make new friends.
