PENN-OHIO STORM
The Penn-Ohio Blue Storm basketball teams have won several recent tournaments. The 10th grade Penn-Ohio Blue Storm boys team won the championship at the Pittsburgh Nets All Star AAU tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Blue Storm went 4-0, defeating Court Time All Stars in the championship. Members of the team were Anthony Cannone, Dom Mashotda, Mario Bouchedid, Demetrius Allen, Patrick Nagy, Deion Harris, Wyatt Ford, Daylen Williams, Jon Wagner and Marc Lincoln. The coach is Andy Timko. The 5th grade Penn-Ohio Blue Storm boys also won the championship at the same tournament, going 4-0 with a championship game victory over the Pittsburgh Nets. Members of the team were Ethan Ray, Aaron Sickafuse, Ziyon Strickland, Chris Mottillo, Joe Batt, Adam Enscoe, Dajon Motley, Trap Wentling, Horizon Watson, and Donald Whitehead, and coach Butch Enscoe. Finally, the This past weekend the 7th grade Penn-Ohio Blue Storm boys won the championship, going 4-0 with a title-game win over the Pittsburgh Nets. They qualified for the USA Nationals tournament. Coached by Keith Russell, Justin Magestro and Jim Powers, members of the team were Jason Austin, Zane Rummell, Matt Partridge, Jacob Harvey, Kyle Russell, Evan Engelhardt, Alex Huff, Nate White, Drew Magestro and Jimmy Powers.
HOLY FAMILY
The Holy Family Parish 6th grade boys basketball team won the Catholic League Championship, defeating St. Luke 36-31 in the championship game. Holy Family won the championship for the second straight year. Members of the team were Adam Yossef, Robert Kurta, Padraig O’Shaughnessy, Alex Wollet, Kieran Burke, Kyle McCarthy, Patrick Brennan, Christopher Perry, Christopher Lewis, Jacob Ovaska, Tony Zeno and Jay Raymer. Bob Wollet and Ted Brennan were the coaches.
SWISH HOOPS
An AAU basketball program, SWISH Hoops consists of a 16U team and 15U team. The 16u team is 20-2, and the 15U team is 18-2. Both teams won the Pittsburgh Spring Slam and Hoops Mountain PA Invitational tournaments. The 15U team also won the Strongsville Classic while the 16U team advanced to the semifinals of the 18U division. The 16U team also won an AAU national qualifier in Western Pennsylvania. The national tournament will be in July in Orlando, Fla. The 15U team includes New Castle High players Drew Allen, Stew Allen and Malik Hooker; Matthew McKinney of Neshannock; Jake McPhatter of Kennedy Catholic, and Benjamin Young of Union. The 16U team includes Jacob Abraham, Shawn Anderson, Antonio Rudolph and Jesse Salzano of New Castle, Jaylen Bailey and Khalil Hopson of Sharon; Markel Peace of Union, and Jeffrey Thompson of Kennedy Catholic. The team is coached by Robb White, a Niles High graduate.
OHIO GLACIERS
The Ohio Glaciers 12U baseball team has won two tournaments and is unbeaten through 12 games. The Glaciers won the Triple Crown Sports Great Lakes Opener in Youngstown with five wins, including a 17-0 championship-game win over WP Wolfpack. The Glaciers also won the Nations State Qualifier Batter Up Classic in Richmond Heights, winning four games. They defeated Wadsworth Grizzlies 10-1 in the title game. Those tournament wins qualified the Glaciers for the Triple Crown Nationals and Nations State Tournament. They will play at Cooperstown (N.Y.) Dreams Park in July. Members of the team include Joe DeLucia, Ethan Kalina, Chris Lewis, Joey Machuga, Zach Tinkey and Anthony Vross of Canfield, and Lucas Nasonti and Michael Turner of Champion. Anthony Vross is the manager, and coaches are Darren Machuga, Bob Tinkey, Eric Kalina and Brian Turner.
