It just doesn’t seem right to watch a baseball game without a hot dog in your hand. But now, fans of the Boardman High School baseball team can have their dogs and eat them, too.
Thanks to the work of students in the school’s wood classes and the Dug Out Club, the baseball field has a new concession stand.
The club, the booster arm of the high school team, contacted Glenn Sivak of the Industrial Arts department at the high school about building a concession stand at the baseball field.
The club hoped the concession stand would generate a little extra income for the team and also be able to house some necessities missing from their games. It turned into a class project for Sivak’s Wood 3 and 4 classes. The work began in January.
Home Depot jumped at the opportunity to lend a hand and its Depot Team helped with the wood purchase and was on hand to help in the construction. The wood classes worked diligently and completed the structure inside the wood lab in about 12 weeks, but rain delays prevented them raising it outside.
The club waited almost four weeks to pour the cement foundation. That part of the project was handled by Downie Construction, who also donated their time and some material to make the concession stand a reality.
All the wood classes from BHS, along with Team Depot members and Dug Out Club parents, showed up for the May 2 raising of the stand next to the baseball field.
