Spartans to host double header today
The Boardman Spartans baseball team has added Stow-Munroe Falls High School to the schedule and will play host to the Bulldogs at Eastwood Field, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, today at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
This is the Spartans first opportunity to play at the minor league home of the Scappers, an Indians minor league team.
Stow currently boosts a 8-7 record and is 3-4 in the Northeast Ohio League.
Track team impresses at prestigious meet
The Boardman High School girls track team competed at the highly competitive Optimist Meet at Austintown Fitch May 7. The 14 competitors did not disappoint.
Sophomore Daisy Robinson threw 117-1 to place seventh and sophomore Giovanna Silvestri had a toss of 114-8 to finish in eighth place.
In the shot put, Robinson had another career best toss of 35-6 æ to place seventh and Silvestri placed eighth with a throw of 35-3 º.
In the pole vault, sophomore Sarina Mauerman placed seventh with a vault of 8-0.
Freshman sprinter Nikki Hillard made the finals of the 200-meter dash and placed sixth with a time of 27.35.
Junior Tori Moore placed seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:28.30.
Boardman impresses at track meet
The Baordman girls track team competed at the “Waldo” Ward Middle School relays at Columbiana May 2 and placed in three events.
Catie Groubert, Katie Blaine, Irina Sprankle and Jordan Grantonic took third in the distance medley in 6:45.
Anna Saxton, Franchesca Cardillo, Taylor Thomas and Jordan Grantonic earned a third place finish in the 4X600 relay in 8:29.
Catie Groubert, Anna Saxton, Irina Sprankle and Jordan Grantonic made up 4X400 relay team and took third with a time of five minutes flat.
Softball Spartans defeat Falcons
The Spartans softball team defeated the Fitch Falcons May 5 by the score of 9-4.
Brooke Meenachan had four singles on the day and Alex Didomenico added a triple and three RBIs.
Boardman defeats St. Thomas Aquinas
Boardman posted a 9-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas at Cene Park May 4.
Boardman took an early 2-1 lead in the fourth inning and added seven more in the fifth inning to secure the victory.
David DiBernardi went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. Phil DiIanni was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Derek Pasquale also had two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Danny Popio added a triple.
