The Society of St. John Chrysostom, Youngstown-Warren Chapter, will present a program on “The Challenges of Ethnicity for Churches Both East and West in the 21st Century and the Challenge of our Young People” at 7 p.m. May 24 at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave.

Speaker will be the Rev. Joseph S. Rudjak, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church and of Our Lady of Hungary.

The society is an ecumenical organization of Catholic and Orthodox clergy and laity, working to make known the history, worship, spirituality, discipline and theology of Eastern Christendom.

First Friday Club

Sister Karita Ivancic, assistant professor of music and theology at Notre Dame College in Ohio, will be guest speaker when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets June 2 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, Market Street. Her topic will be “Scripture and Art.”

Health ministry

Trumbull County Health Department, 176 Chestnut Ave. NE, will sponsor a program to address the step-by-step strategies, resources and tools needed to start or enhance a church health ministry.

The session will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 21 at Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 N. River Road.

50th anniversary

Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, 2576 McCleary Jacoby Road, will celebrate its 50th anniversary from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 22.

The event also will recognize Dan Barker’s 25th anniversary as church pastor.

Afternoon events include tours, a ministry fair and games and children’s activities.

Praise bands from the church and Higher Praise Covenant Church in Warren will lead the congregation.

Elected a director

At the spring diocesan directors’ meeting during April in Alexandria, Va., Catholic Charities USA elected Mary Ellen “Meg” Andersen to serve on its executive committee of the Council of Diocesan Directors.

Andersen is president and chief executive officer for the Diocese of Youngstown Catholic Charities Corp., the entity responsible for the oversight of four social service agencies and one housing corporation in the Diocese of Youngstown.

She has been with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown since 1993, and has served in her present role for the past 12 years.

Andersen lives in Warren with her husband, Michael, and is a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

The Rev. Andrew Gromm has a weekly lesson on the ancient rituals of the Eastern Orthodox Church at 6 p.m. Thursdays at St. Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St.

75th anniversary

Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Elk St., will celebrate its 75th anniversary Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m., worship at 10:45 and an afternoon program at 3:30 p.m. with guests from St. Peter’s Baptist Church.

The Rev. Sylvia L. Jennings is the church’s first female pastor.

“Living the Victorious Life,” a Christian education conference, is planned from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St. Workshop presenters, Deacons Michael Lyons and Mark Rheins and the Rev. Joyce Jones, will present sessions on “Knowing Him in the Power of His Resurrection,” “The Fellowship of His Suffering” and “Walking in Victory.”

Hymn sing

A gospel hymn sing-along is planned May 21 at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts- Wick Road. Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the music at 7.

Radio show

The Rev. Andrew Gromm, pastor of St. Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St., preaches the Gospel and church history from the ancient Eastern Christian perspective during a half-hour radio program at noon Saturdays on WSOM, AM 600.

Davidic teaching

Marion C. Masters, director of the Davidic Army of God Ministry, will present Davidic teaching and Hebrew praise and worship from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Where the Lord Provides Christian Center, 104 W. Evergreen.

There will be a replica of the Ark of the Covenant.

Prayer breakfast

Men and Women in Action will sponsor a prayer breakfast at 10 a.m. today at Abundant Love Outreach Ministry, 93 E. Myrtle Ave. Keynote speaker will be Francine Vazaquez. Tickets are $10. Funds will benefit the community outreach program.

Women’s Day

The Women’s Department of Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, 2165 Highland Road, will host its 22nd annual Women’s Day from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The theme is “Holy Women of God Accepting the Challenge to Build Better Holmes and Communities.”

Guest speaker will be evangelist Judy Hines of Atlanta, founder of Deliverance Prayer Camp.

Featured will be the Gospel Women’s Choir and Latter Rain Flag Ministry of Canton and Legenda Gully of God’s Grace Ministries, Suzette Smith of Renoboth Rivers of Living Waters COGIC and Donna J. Davis of Believers Christian Fellowship.
