The students at Canfield United Methodist Church Preschool were asked to go about the morning of April 30 as if nothing was different. The students spent their free time playing, then performed a song with their teacher, and ate a snack as a class.

But things were different that morning because their dads were along for the adventure.

Monica Egolf, the preschool’s lead teacher for the 3-year-old class, welcomed her students and their special guests that Saturday morning.

“This is a chance for our students’ special people to take a journey through their day. We love to offer families a chance to unite and interact, because interaction is so important,” Egolf shared.

Guests were welcomed to the preschool that morning with name tags that the students had made earlier that week and art projects that thanked “Our Dandy Dads.” The dads and their preschoolers enjoyed free play with gears, pipes and connectors, sand and patched up wounds at a play doctor’s office.

Payton Henderson stopped at the art easels in her classroom to draw with her dad, Jamie Henderson.

“The first thing I did when I came here was start to draw,” Payton explained.

“I drew a clubhouse, and drew my mom, dad, and family in there. There’s a tree here and the blue jay is supposed to be my brother,” she said of her art project.

After free play, the students gathered for their early morning welcome. Egolf called the class to attention, sang their welcome song, and prayed, and the dads joined in the morning activities. The day ended with an ice cream snack from Dairy Queen.

“We’re very glad that we could welcome dads, uncles and family members into our preschool,” Egolf said as the event ended. “We hope the family members see how we strive to show that learning is fun and that fun can be learning.”
