Poland residents Aimee and Adeline Schweers have combined to share more than 19 inches of hair with children and adults who really need it.

Adeline’s 11 inches of hair will be heading to Locks of Love, a non-profit that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair for medical reasons. Aimee’s 8.5 inch ponytail is being sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, who makes wigs for adults.

The mother-daughter team had its locks clipped April 16 at Special Touch Salon in Poland and stylist Lori Fishel snipped off the ponytails. They enjoyed the experience of helping others and doing it together.

“I knew that members of my family were suffering, and other families as well. I needed a haircut and I have a lot of hair to give. When I decided to donate again, Adeline told me to wait, so we could do it together, and here we are,” Aimee explained.

Adeline, who is 9 years old, said she wanted to donate 11 inches of her hair that day simply because, “It’s a nice thing to do.”

Aimee Schweers said her donation is her way of honoring her family, many of whom suffer from cancer.

For those who are interested in cutting off their hair for charity, Adeline has a few words of advice.

“I wanted to cut off my hair about five times as I was growing it out,” Adeline admitted. “So be patient. It’s going somewhere really great, so it’s OK to wait.”

The Schweers intend to continue their donations indefinitely.

“Considering what people with cancer are going through, cutting off your hair is the easy part. It’s a little thing that makes a big difference,” Aimee Schweers said.
