Trumbull County sheriff’s deputies are investigating as a possible suicide the death of a 29-year-old man found dead in his cell at the Trumbull County Jail Friday, said Major Thomas Stewart, head of detectives and internal affairs for the Sheriff’s Department. The body was found around 3:45 p.m. when his meal was delivered. The man was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges. His name is being withheld pending notifications of relatives. An autopsy is to be performed Monday, Stewart said.

City man indicted

A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Deondray Robinson, 23, of Youngstown, with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possessing with the intent to distribute crack cocaine.

The indictment charges that on or about April 7, Robinson possessed an automatic pistol and ammunition after he previously had been convicted of aggravated robbery and felonious assault in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. It also alleges that on or about that same date, Robinson possessed with the intent to distribute crack cocaine.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives-Youngstown Field Office and Youngstown Police Department. The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Toepfer.

Shooting probed

Police are investigating a shooting on the city’s East Side. Police reports state that an 18-year-old Elm Street woman was driving along Albert Street at Victor Street at 8:40 p.m. Thursday when she noticed bright lights in her rearview mirror, then heard the sound of gunfire. Reports say bullets struck the car’s trunk area, rear window and front windshield. The driver, in her attempt to flee, struck a guardrail and called police.

Driveway robbery

A 25-year-old South Side woman told police she was robbed while sitting in a car in a driveway in the 1300 block of Ivanhoe Avenue at 1 a.m. Thursday. She said she noticed a blue or silver van coming slowly down the street, heard gunfire and saw two men wearing masks run up to the car , put a gun to her head and take her purse. The woman told police she found the purse a short time later missing a wallet containing $800 and her identification.

Crash victim ID’d

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County coroner has identified the woman killed in a Wednesday car crash at the intersection of Midlothian Boulevard and Hudson Avenue as 79-year-old Vera Gabrick of Youngstown. Gabrick was involved in a two-car accident on the South Side, in which she sustained blunt-force injuries to the abdomen. She was wearing a seat belt. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she was pronounced dead. The coroner’s office is still investigating.
