On May 5, Hilltop Elementary School hosted its annual registration for kindergartners entering the school in the fall.

Future students and their parents could go to the school to fill out the necessary forms for the student to attend the school and receive several screenings necessary for the school’s records.

Hilltop Elementary School Principal Cathy Mowry and several PTO volunteers set up stations for the children and parents in the school’s library.

Children were required to visit six stations, including classrooms, academic screening, hearing screening, speech screening, vision screening and body mass index screening.

Parents visited the paperwork station, the copy station, the meet the school nurse station and the meet the principal station.

The future students also met Mowry and she was eager to answer any questions either the students or parents wanted to ask about kindergarten or the school, or pretty much anything they wanted to talk about.

The Lions Club of Canfield provided the vision screening, as they have for many years. Several members volunteered to screen the students and were set up at different tables. Dr. Carmela Abraham, a member of the Canfield Lions, volunteered her time to help screen the vision of the future students.

Along with the forms the parents filled out, they also received bussing information, a parents’ handbook for getting a child ready for kindergarten, a frequently-asked-questions sheet, information on Safety Day and the kindergarten supply list. As a parting treat, the children received a pack of Goldfish grahams.
