A fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics will be from 7 to 11 tonight at Wonder Bar, 100 W. Liberty St. Mayor Jim Melfi and other local officials will serve as bartenders, and all proceeds will go to Special Olympics, which will be May 21 at Girard Stadium.
Sex offender

Heather Duncan, a former Southern High School employee, has been sentenced to three years of “community control” for a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old student in 2009. As part of a plea deal, the 29-year-old entered an Alford plea, which means she did not admit guilt. However she will have to register as a sex offender for 15 years, according to 21 WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
133K pills collected
WARREN
Operation Empty Medicine Cabinet, sponsored by the Trumbull-Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force, Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board and Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District, resulted in the collection of 133,000 prescription pills, the task force said. The project, conducted twice per year, was Wednesday at the waste management facility. Many of the prescriptions were for narcotics and depressants. The project removes expired, unwanted or unused prescription medications to protect the environment, and prevent children from hazards of non-medical drug use. The next pickup will be Sept. 21.
Barbecue benefit
PETERSBURG
A chicken barbecue dinner to benefit Petersburg Fire Station will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the station, state Route 170. Cost is $8 for adults and takeouts and $6 for children. Tickets are available at the door.
Arson suspected
YOUNGSTOWN
A suspected arson fire Friday night caused minor damage to a vacant home at 1343 East High St. The fire was reported at 7:48 p.m., fire officials said.
Drug raid in New Castle
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Four Mahoning Valley men were arrested in a drug raid Friday by the Lawrence County Drug Task Force at a home on West Edison Avenue. Charges of dealing drugs were filed against Ty’Juan D’Altorio of Campbell and Rodney Madison, Derrick Madison and Shun Moreland, all of Youngstown, according to 21 WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
The Drug Task force confiscated heroin, cocaine, pills, a gun and more than $2,600 in cash. Authorities said two other men were arrested as they tried to buy drugs during the raid.
